A teacher is off the job and facing charges, accused of striking a male student.
Susan Worthington, 59, is on leave from Mauldin Middle School.
Officials say she hit the boy in the mouth with an open hand. The student went to the nurse's office bleeding and the nurse contacted the principal who reported it to the school resource office. Worthington was arrested Wednesday.
The Greenville County School District says the 6th grade language arts teacher is facing third degree assault and battery charges stemming an incident last Thursday.
School officials say they are looking into the accusation.
Worthington is out on $1,088 bond.
Worthington was in court for a hearing Wednesday and was released on a $1,088 bond.
Worthington started working at Mauldin in August of last year. Before that, she worked at Woodmont Middle, Beck Middle, Stone Academy, Sue Cleveland Elementary and Tanglewood Middle.
